Nine Months of Building Wekoya: From a Small Idea to Something Bigger Than Us
March.
That was when everything started.
I brought together Umar-Faruq Adeshina and Victory Abiodun-Omoniyi with a simple belief: learning could be better. At the time, it felt like a small project. Nothing fancy. Just an idea to help people understand what they study, faster and better.
Fast forward nine months, and that small project now has a name: Wekoya.
The funny part? We still have not fully accomplished the goal. But we are closer than we have ever been.
The Highs: When Things Started to Feel Real
Nithub Incubator
One of the biggest highs this year was getting into the Nithub Incubator Programme.
It was not just about building features. It was about learning how to think like founders. We refined our solution, challenged our assumptions, and interacted with other builders who were figuring things out just like us. It gave Wekoya structure and momentum.
That experience was invaluable. Being surrounded by other founders, sharing struggles and wins, getting feedback from mentors who had been through it all before. It shaped how we approach problems today.
From Building to Users: Beta Launch
We kept building. Day after day. Feature after feature.
Then came our beta launch, where real students used Wekoya for the first time. This was a turning point. Moving from "we think this works" to "people are actually using this" changed everything.
Watching users struggle, smile, and give feedback. It was humbling and enlightening. It exposed gaps, validated ideas, and reminded us who we were building for. Every piece of feedback was gold. Every confused look taught us something new about our product.
Launch Day: October 30, 2025
On October 30, 2025, we officially launched Wekoya.
Since then, it has been immersive. Seeing people use the product, working on fixes, shipping updates, and improving the experience in real time. We launched Game Mode, grew our community, started hosting weekly game nights with rewards, and slowly built something people return to.
Growth has not been loud. But it has been steady. And real.

The Lows: Losses That Did Not Stop Us
Not everything went our way.
We lost hackathons. We lost pitch competitions. We missed opportunities we thought we had nailed.
But one thing stayed constant: we kept moving.
Each loss sharpened our focus and reminded us that momentum matters more than applause. Those rejections hurt, but they also fueled us. Every "no" became motivation to prove ourselves.
What Wekoya Really Is (and Is Not)
Early on, I made peace with something important:
Wekoya is not another "study app."
It is not a question bank.
It is not a generic learning platform.
Wekoya is a personalized learning engine.
And next year, we are taking that further into hyper-personalized learning. We are building toward something deeper, smarter, and more human.
There is a lot coming. Stay tuned.
The Team: The Real Win
More than anything, I am grateful for the team.
Building with Umar and Victory has been a lesson in trust, growth, and patience. We have learned together, argued through decisions, shipped under pressure, and improved as builders.

Beyond building, we laugh. We talk. We have fun. And we enjoy the journey because that part matters too. It is not just about the destination. It is about who you are running with.

Looking Ahead
Nine months ago, this was just an idea.
Today, it is a living product with users, a community, and a future.
We are still early.
Still learning.
Still building.
And we are not stopping.
